Manual thinning in orchards

Fruit thinning is an operation which is necessary to balance the production and improve its quality. The intensity changes from year to year and from fruit to fruit, according to the flowering/fruit setting.

Three types of thinning can be distinguished:

  • mechanical thinning, carried out during the blossoming period with machines that reduce the flower number
  • chemical weeding, carried out after blossoming, with phytogenerators that control the tree’s flowering process
  • manual thinning, carried out manually during the first phases of fruit growing, removing the ones in excess.
